Behavior change in each of us has never been random, and it always relies on several parameters such as our experience, surrounding environment, logical thinking for the long and short term future, and our recent past. Most people handle situations based on their cognitive logic, and plausible expectancy from ourselves, this kind of behavior is typical in a more general approach.

Notwithstanding, other humans don’t follow this line, so they are different or weird than us. Depression and Anxiety is a situation in which we normal humans alter behavior into the weird one, take a more cynical approach to deal with the present case.

Moreover, changed behavior to weird ones exaggerate the possible situation in a negative way.

“Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.”
— Arthur Somers Roche

In the earlier century, humans were unaware and uninformed about these diseases, so they take in a more simplistic way of mental category.

Later in the early 20th-century, doctors were ready to take this situation as a psychological problem. In most parts of the world, panic and anxiety attacks are commonly assumed as brain loss. Freud gave a novel methodology to deal with this despite his mastery in medicine. Arthur Somers Roche described Anxiety in a simplistic manner as a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are the drain

Currently, four approaches to a cure for depression and Anxiety are — MEDICATION. PSYCHOTHERAPY, LOVE, AND SPIRITUALITY. Nevertheless, there are several other attempts made, which are now illegal or criminal methods.

1. Medication

From the 19th century, the scientific community made several trials on various drugs that potentially may cure depression by slowing the thinking process of the patient. Moreover, in the mid 20th century, electric shocks were so popular to reconfigure the human brain.

Modern medicines are based on the assumption that symptoms are caused by pathological, and they are selective for only specific diseases. However, depression and Anxiety don’t show standard morbid signs, which caused to unsuccessful approach to cure. If we humans could find the medicine which could cure the only specific problem without any adverse effect of these medicines are not precise on sub disease or multi-level diseases. Besides, prescribing dosages of medication on an individual is hard to calculate due to no available technology to measure stress.

Following are medication to mitigate Depression and Anxiety:

  • Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)
SSRIs relieve symptoms by blocking the reabsorption, or reuptake, of serotonin by certain nerve cells in the brain. This leaves more serotonin available, which improves mood.
  • Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs)
The serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor or SNRI class (venlafaxine and duloxetine) is notable for a dual mechanism of action: increasing the levels of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine by inhibiting their reabsorption into cells in the brain.
  • Benzodiazepines
This class of drugs is frequently used for short-term management of Anxiety and as an add on treatment, in treatment-resistant anxiety disorders.
  • Tricyclic Antidepressants
Concerns about the long-term use of benzodiazepines led many doctors to favor tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, imipramine, and nortriptyline). Although effective in the treatment of some anxiety disorders(but not Social Anxiety Disorder), they can cause significant side effects, including orthostatic hypotension (drop in blood pressure on standing), constipation, urinary retention, dry mouth, and blurry vision.

As above mentioned medication, there are several drugs available which may cure your problem with giving severe side effects.

As per the recent survey, psychological therapy is more effective with fewer side effects. Hence, our next method is psychological therapy.

2. Psychotherapy

Cognitive behavior therapy defined depression and Anxiety as a result of erroneous cognition, which is a fault that required treatment to correct. Since 1930, unequivocally proven that D&A can be corrected by psychotherapy if it is done ethically.

Through the eyes of psychologists, we can see this problem with the help of Dual-process theory similar to decision theory. Tversky & Kahneman gave two cases for the decision process.

Case 1: produces fast, automatic, and emotional responses and is a process that is unavailable to consciousness.

Case 2: produces slower, deliberate responses that are based on conscious reasoning

“Our sensations are here to attract us or deter us, our memories to warn or encourage us, our feelings to impel, and our thoughts to restrain our behavior, so that on the whole we may prosper and our days be long in the land.” — William James

Most of us land in the second category. But those who fall into the first case show various faults in alief. To explain this, for example, the person on the endpoint of mountain land, average person(Second case), will take relief for having an area where he came and could go without death. In contradiction, people who fall in the second case may panic because there is no land in front of them. This cognitive instability ignites panic or anxiety attack.

As per the CBT, the therapist should know everything about the patient to find the right cause of D&A, and then only the treatment could begin. For that, the therapist should know the likes and dislikes of the patient and then designed a therapy aligned with his habits.

In some cases, the therapist takes open sessions in public or while walking on the road; on the other hand, long discussion in the closed office to project safety to share patients’ vulnerability.

Steps to take in psychiatric therapy

  1. Identifying your negative thoughts
  2. Challenging your negative thoughts.
  3. Replacing negative thoughts with realistic thoughts.

Some of the available therapies are as follows:

Cognitive therapy examines how negative thoughts, or cognitions, contribute to Anxiety.

Behavior therapy examines how you behave and react in situations that trigger anxiety.

Exposure therapy exposes you to the situations or objects you fear.

Adaptability therapy force patient to go through a similar situation(Which they fear), which will help the cerebrum to feel friendly with those cases. However, this treatment has other adverse effects. Such as constant failure in a situation can create excess depression.

With the mentioned therapy, one should also take complementary measures such as Exercise, biofeedback, relaxation, and hypnosis.

3. Power of love

Love is a mask therapy on the psychiatric process. However, it includes motivation, support, desire to full fill your partner, and external courage from the partner and family. Partner and family members are the doors of love, which may kindle dedication to go beyond the limits.

In some cases, physical intimacy between lovers can reduce Anxiety with a substantial percentage. romantic love is a revolutionary and generates lots of oxytocin hormones which potentially decrease the stress level and depression complexity

Mahatma Ghandi once wrote, “Where there is love there is life.”

A simple talk with your loved ones can boost the confidence to the level where mistakes are taken as lessons and not as a failure. Mahatma Gandhi wrote to his paper that where there is love, there is life. It means we can lesson to someone and said the only phrase “Things will get better” could give a thrust to come over from boredom, depression, and frustration.

4. Spirituality

When people don’t have a clue to move in which direction they rely on the hope that God or supernatural force will come to take all your bad situations and problems. Faith on a god and hence confessing and talking with him is a simple way to become light-hearted. The old generation believes that God gave this life, and he designed our destiny, so don’t look at what you got. Do only your part of the work.

Giving all tension to God or asking help from God is like buying time. Because time will heal everything. There is not any scientific evidence; however, the truth is people get relief from depression and Anxiety because of spirituality.

There are other ways similar to meditation, chanting, forgetting the materialistic lifestyle, and many other ways. You can read how spirituality changes anxiety and depression here.

Medication, psychiatric therapy, love, and spirituality are the most effective way to cure depression and anxiety. No proven method has been found with a hundred percent efficacy, but respect and psychiatric therapy showed tremendous power to get over from boredom, depression, frustration, and Anxiety. Love everyone because at the end “Save One Life, You Save The World Entire
